CBST's Open Door policy that gives everyone the opportunity to attend our High Holy Day services without being a member or buying a ticket is the cornerstone who we are. It is also our gift to the entire New York Metropolitan Jewish community by those who, for so long, were removed from full participation in Jewish Life. The Open Door is only able to survive with the support of our members and non-member donors who make this fund and our High Holy Day appeal a success each year. Please take a moment and make a donation to help sustain this community and the wonderful difference we are making in the world.

Pratt Institute - schedule visit

Judith Aaron
Vice President for Enrollment
Pratt Institute
718 636-3743

Pratt’s Media Arts program emphasizes an awareness of fine arts traditions as well as the professional disciplines of the contemporary media artist. The department promotes critical thinking and independence across the spectrum of media making.
B.F.A. in Film (Film or Animation)
The film and video program is structured to offer parallel production courses at each level of the curriculum. Students acquire foundation skills while pursuing their own artistic visions. Courses in ways of seeing cinema, documentary, personal diary media, project development, and contemporary issues in film and video, augment the education of the a media maker. Animation courses are constructed to afford a wide exposure to all aspects of animation production and to allow students to focus on the areas of greatest interest. Courses in animation history, character development, storyboarding, and storytelling enhance the animation production courses. The junior workshops are advanced studies in film/video or animation production using traditional and digital tools. Because of Pratt’s proximity to New York City, students are encouraged to work in internship programs in film, video, animation, and postproduction studios.

The four years culminate in a senior film/animation project that can be in any genre—experimental, dramatic, documentary, or a combination thereof—and in a variety of media. The projects, which are screened in an end-of-the-year show, become students’ portfolios. A portfolio reel can be part of a graduate school application, can be sent to festivals, or can serve as a calling card demonstrating the student’s skill.

Got my Address in Brooklyn!

473 Hart St
Brooklyn, NY 11221-2515

Saturday Night Live tickets, not this time

Heading up to see Mogwai at Terminal5, taking Q train to bus at West 57th.

Went to Judaism in the Arts class - it was awesome, food was good.  Most students are NYU freshman, except for me and a couple of non-Freshman NYU students.  We're going to a retreat upstate New York and a shabbaton - not only do I get fed for showing up, I get paid at the end of the semester - $500 - sweet!!!

Changed my mind - moved into my apartment instead.  Hung out with Joy and her friend Santa in Central Park;
a group is going to camp out to get tickets for Saturday Night Live tomorrow night!!!!

Stand-by tickets are distributed at 7am on the 49th st. side of 30 Rockefeller Plaza on the mornings of the tapings. You may choose a stand-by ticket for either the 8pm dress rehearsal or the11:30pm live taping. Aside from minimal, necessary breaks, all stand-by line members must remain in line at all times. Stand-by tickets are limited to one per person and are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. NBC staff reserves the right to revoke or not issue any ticket to anyone in line if proper procedures are not followed. Please arrive no later than 7:15 pm for the dress rehearsal or 10:45 pm for the live show. A stand-by ticket does not guarantee admission and no one under the age of 16 will be admitted.

Tonight class and last night Smooch

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that Judaism & The Arts begins tonight at 5pm sharp at the Bronfman Center. Although it’s called an “orientation”, it is really the first of the 10 classes of the fellowship and is mandatory. It will last the full 2.5 hours.

Dinner will be at 6pm!
For a complete schedule, click here: http://www.nyu.edu/bronfman/new/index.php?page=JEBiz

Looking forward to meeting you!
Thanks,
Julia

-----------------------------------------------
Hey,
Sorry about last night.
I was running a little late and told the owner of Smooch to tell everyone I was on my way.
I got there at 9:15 and there was a big crowd and wehad a good time! =)
Please always leave a voicemail or text me.I get lots of phone calls and sometimes don't answer if I don't know the number. Don't worry we will be back next week! J

Picking up photos in Village

got my prints back on 35mm film. done by a machine so it prints along the edge and can only choose one chunk of the film - a person would have made better decisions about where to cut the pictures. There's one shot of Max that was cut and a bit of light leaked, so all the colors are twice as vibrant and added some red hue, really caught the essence of Max. Whenever I am doing 35 mm, got to go to a place with a person that I talk to.

Ate at Ridgeway Diner for breakfast.

Picking up photos at Spectra Photo Digital, 77 Christopher Street. Weird their web site does not list this location...
I was trying to tell him it was going to printed across the sprockets, but you don't have to print the sprockets. He had a very thick accent and didn't understand me. I have a feeling I'm going to get there and he's going to yell at me that it costs extra and he couldn't do it. So I'm probably not going to use them again, but we'll see what happens.

check here for another place http://newyork.zami.com/Photo_Lab/S

New York is easy to figure out on the grid, except when you get below 1st Street and then it takes longer to get my bearings. I need a pocket compass or something to figure out which way I'm heading to save time.

Today

After Moma, had lunch at Katz's deli. Checked out some record stores around St. Marks Place. Only 1 good one - Mondo Kims at 6 St. Marks. Picked up a CD of Mogwai. Adrian is going to be pissed because he passed up seeing them to come with me to another concert.

Walked back and hung around Washington Square, talked on phone. Headed on B train into Brooklyn for Couchsurfing get together
at Smooch Organic Cafe
264 Carlton Ave, Brooklyn, New York (11205) (at Dekalb Ave)

found some other restaurant listings to add to my menuisms:

Didn't know I was supposed to RSVP to let the Brooklyn CS guy know I was coming - so no one else showed up before I left.
Got back to the city, ate at Waveryly Diner - had a salad and malted. Headed back to New Jersey.

MOMA

Oh, man  got a membership so I got a preview of the Van Gogh exhibit...Van Gogh and the Colors of the Night
A couple of years ago I came with my family and they were still building, so we went out to Queens and they only had a few things, but still it was amazing

I could only do a couple of rooms in a couple of hours, spent some time outside in the garden area.
Definitely a place to soothe my soul no matter

music area not much to write about, but man, the Van Goghs

applying for job at Cafe2

Wednesday, September 17

Ate at Cafeteria, had the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes.  Hahaha - posting it to menuisms.  Trying a different place everyday - goal is $10 or under.  I spend less than 20 minutes usually eating alone, so I'm a good customer.

Then headed up town to MOMA and thought I'd try to find a record store on the way, since I'm walking.  I was going to hit Future Legends on West 53rd then cut east to MOMO.
But it was gone in April.  Bumbed that a lot of independents closed.

------------I've got to check out Norman's Sound & Vision
67 Cooper Sq
New York, NY 10003
(212) 473-6599

And Sound Track, a cozy store on busy Seventh Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Later, I'll head down to pick up tickets for Mogwai.

-------There's a couchsurfing get together in Brooklyn tonight:
I wanted to extend a special invatation to everyone
under 21 to come out and meet some couch surfers!! A
lot of times we meet at bars and places where it's
hard for you to come out! But not Smooch!!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Jay
Since plans can change I suggest you take down my cell
phone number - 404-354-5246 .. Call/txt whatever

So on Wednesday night we like to meet up at Smooch Cafe
in Ft. Greene to get the Brooklyn folks together.
Smooch is located just north of Dekalb ave on Carlton.
It has big glass windows, but it's sometimes hard to
find the sign. The have pretty good food including
several veggies options. Dinner runs about $10 and
beers are $5 or 6.

We will stay at Smooch until 10:00PM
At that point will walk back to Fulton and South
Portland
and go to Hababa Outpost and enjoy $2.50
draft Six Point Craft beer!! Or 4.50 Corona, and maybe
some $2 grilled corn. At 12 if people are still wanting
to stay out Moe's is a great place to finish the
night!

The guys are really chill and close to my age.  Best situation I've found.  Awesome.

Our roommate is moving to London for grad school and so were looking for someone to take over her room.

you can move in anytime from Sept 20th to Oct 1st. (the earlier the better) and the lease is up on Dec. 1 we may keep the apartment or we may not... but I guess plan on it only lasting till Dec. 1 and the room can still furnished with her stuff if you would like.

the room is a decent size fits a bed, desk, dresser and LOTS of closet space, one in the room one in the hallway. there are 2 cats here but they are people friendly and sweet. I live here, Im 26 guy (Matt) that goes out way too much and am barely here but I think I am super chill and fun (so I am told). There is also a 21 year old girl (carly) that goes to school and works she is as well chill and cool... gettin the hint here... haha we are open to new people and hope this will be fun. email me for any questions and if you have a myspace that would be great. thanks.

Were having an open house on Monday night at 7, hopefully this will work...

thanks for reading and we look forward to meeting ya. Byeeee

Looking at 2 places tonight

Saw first place - cool guys, nice kitchen - cook alot. Atmosphere - we hang out alot.  Its a 4 room apt - 1 got married and moved out.  Might be another room also available. Neighborhood has poor people and hipsters - 2 groups seem to resent each other. Cool bar with awesome music, whole wall opens up - playing Jesus and Mary Chain, which is obscure music, but very cool.

looking at 2 places with people in Williamsburg later.

Got up, got out, got to Path train in New Jersey and didn't have my wallet.  Went back and got my wallet, got over to NYU, had a pumpernickel bagel.  Got my stuff from the Brofman Center and hanging in Washington Square, probably will busk.  Got a 4:00 and a 6:00 for shared spaces in Williamsburg.  Got a student tour tomorrow morning at NYU.  Checking out CUNY Brooklyn, thought I was registered for spring already.  Things are looking better than a few hours ago.

Slept in New Jersey, got up, took the Path from Journal Square to 9th Street.  Walked around Washington Square Park, Christopher Park, West village, NYU territory.  Busked in the park, made some money.  Ate at Sullivan Diner.  Went to Bronfman Center at NYU and met people for Havdallah.  Walked to Christopher St. Piers to light candle.  Walked back and Bronfman center had just closed at 10:00 PM.  I had left my guitar and messenger bag in there, but I had my key and some money.  Walked across 9th street to the Path.  Got a text message from someone on couch surfers.
